NEW: "Sir Gammer Vans" Illustrated by Robin Wilson (2010)
£10.00 Limited Edition of 50
Just out from Flagstone. This is a hand-bound book of the nonsense fairy story Sir Gammer Vans, which was collected in 1849 by James Orchard Halliwell and appeared in his book Nursery Rhymes and Tales. In this version, Robin has included six pen and ink illustrations to the traditional text, which was used as a memory test or a party piece.
Nine pages of great fun eccentricity, this book is like a distillation of the two Alice books. I was reminded of its existence several weeks ago around a camp fire in the Muramures Mountains of Romania, as when called upon to recite from memory, one of the people there recited a version of this from the top of her head to the delight of everyone.
I have just enjoyed greatly the process of producing this book, and will in the coming months be producing more in this series of fun recitation pieces.
