We have spend the day testing the new press from John Tilley, and find that despite our early misgivings about the original rubber rollers (which have not been re-sleeved), the mangle-press is producing excellent prints from our lino-blocks. As you can see from the photograph above, even fairly large blocks are printing evenly across the whole surface of the plate. We printed a range of small and large images from past blocks, and also a two-block 12 print edition of the Pitville Pumprooms in Cheltenham in preparation for our exhibition in the town next week.
All-in-all, a great success. In particular, this press causes less damage to the more delicate Japanese ho-sho papers which we are using than the rather old barens and spoons with which we would otherwise have burnished each print.
