Wytham Church at the Midsummer Festival |
As you can see from the photograph above there were plenty of arts and crafts of one kind or another at the Midsummer Festival in Wytham. Apart from us, all of the other artists live in Wytham. We were invited along as guests because of our connection to the woods. On display were examples of wood turning, quilting, watercolours, photography, sculpture and mosaic work, alongside which we took some of our linocuts of the woods and a few of our recent books. Matt the Wytham thatcher has also turned his hand to charcoal burning this summer, so we had on sale some of his willow charcoal for sketching. Given that he produces his charcoal in a drum of fifteen feet in diameter and five feet in height, he can no doubt single-handedly satisfy the world demand for artistic consumption of charcoal. The picture was taken on the evening that we set up the show in the church. The following day was mercifully hot and sunny, so with Wesley Smith coming along from the BBC and just about everyone from the local area turning out, we had an excellent and busy day of it.
