AN EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURE AND PRINTS
by Tim Wilson and Nacati Zontul
at OXFORD'S FREUD
If you haven't seen it yet, you can still go along to Tim and Necati's exhibition of flat art and sculptures at the Freud on Walton Street in Oxford (OX2 6AH). Flagstone has published a catalogue of Tim and Necati's latest collection, which is available either at the Freud itself or directly from us. Apart from the vast air balloon, there are over forty pictures which form a coherent series of architectural sketches of Oxford, Albania and elsewhere, which reflect the current film-making interests of the pair of artists. Look carefully up at the walls and you'll also find that what at first sight appears to be a structural part of of the interior of this converted church is in fact a series of vast sculptures installed as a part of the exhibition.
"We started doing the Oxford pictures because we need the Ashmolean at the beginning of the Lear film," says Tim. "We've got a don from Merton who's going to read the Owl and the Pussycat. Its such fun."

Many of the pictures are from Tim's Lear Project, which is a mixed film and animation for which he and Nacati spent some time last year on fieldwork in Albania following in the footsteps of Edward Lear, who was himself following Byron. There are also background scenes from Tim's Torture Video, the real and horrifying story of Necati's torure by the Greek Coastguard in 2001, their portrayal of which is in a near final edits.
THE FREVD by Tim Wilson |
"Samuel Palmer! Check him out. You'll see that his leaves and my leaves are pretty similar. I was very conscious of him when I was doing these."
